How to add custom emojis to your Discord server

Custom emojis make a server feel like home. Here is how to add them from an image, a link, or by copying one straight from another server - all without leaving Discord.

Three ways to add an emoji

  • From another server: run /steal with the emoji - the quickest method.
  • From a link or image: upload it and the bot resizes it to fit Discord's limits.
  • Manually: Server Settings → Emoji → Upload Emoji, but you have to size the file yourself.

Keep your slots tidy

Each server has a fixed number of emoji slots that grows with boosts. Give emojis short, memorable names so they are easy to type, and remove ones nobody uses to free up space.

Permissions

Adding or removing emojis needs the Manage Expressions permission. Give the bot that permission when you invite it so it can upload on your behalf.

Add the free Emoji & Sticker bot and build out your emoji set.
