How to apply a template to an existing server

How this differs from Discord's native templates

A native Discord template can only create a fresh server. If your community already exists, that is no help at all: you cannot clone a Discord server onto itself, and rebuilding by hand is tedious.

mimBo's applies a template to an existing server additively. It reads what your server already has and fills in only what is missing, so you can copy a Discord server layout onto a live community in a couple of clicks.

How additive applying works

1. Matching by name

   Every channel and role in the template is matched against your server by name. If a "general" channel or a "Member" role already exists, it is reused instead of being duplicated.
2. Only the gaps are created

   Anything in the template that your server does not have yet is created: new categories, channels, roles and emojis. What already matches is left in place.
3. Optional off-theme pruning

   If you want the server to match the template exactly, you can turn on pruning to remove channels and roles that are not part of the template. This sits behind a clear confirmation step so nothing is ever deleted by accident.
4. Carry the bot config

   A template can also carry mimBo's bot configuration, so the modules and settings that make the layout work land together with the channels and roles.

Apply a template step by step

1. Pick a template

   Choose one from the gallery, or open one of your own at mimbos.com/mytemplates.
2. Press Apply to server

   Start the apply flow and sign in with Discord if you have not already.
3. Choose the existing server

   Select the server you want to update. You need the Manage Server permission on it, and the mimBo's bot must be present, or you will be prompted to add it.
4. Decide on pruning

   Leave pruning off to add only, or turn it on to strip off-theme channels and roles. If you enable it, read the confirmation carefully before continuing.
5. Confirm and review

   Apply the template, then open Discord. Matched items are untouched, new items appear, and any bot configuration is in place.
