How to Use Other Servers’ Emojis Without Nitro

Nitro exists to let you use another server’s emojis in chat. But you don’t have to rent them. You can steal that emoji into a server you control once, and then it’s free for you and every member forever. This is about copying real custom emojis between servers, not uploading your own images.

Why you don’t need Nitro for this

The only thing Nitro unlocks for emojis is using a different server’s emoji in your messages. Inside the server an emoji actually lives on, everyone can use it for free. So instead of paying every month to borrow that cool emoji from another server, you copy it into yours once. From then on it behaves like any native server emoji: free, permanent, no subscription.

This is stealing in the Discord sense: lifting an existing custom emoji out of someone else’s server and into yours. You only need the Manage Expressions permission in the destination server, and you don’t even have to be a member of the server you’re taking it from.

What you need

A server where you can manage emojis (your own works perfectly).
The mimBo’s Emoji & Sticker bot added to that server.
The other server’s emoji: either visible in a message, or its ID (grabbed in seconds, next step).

Step 1: Grab the emoji you want to steal

Find the custom emoji in any message. It doesn’t matter whose server it’s from. On desktop, right-click the emoji and choose Copy Link; on mobile, tap and hold it and pick Copy Media Link. You’ll get a URL like:

That long number is the emoji’s ID. If the link ends in .gif rather than .png, the emoji is animated. Note it for the next step.

Copy Link works without Nitro and even when you can’t type the emoji yourself. That’s why it beats the old “backslash trick,” which needs you to be able to send the emoji first.

Step 2: Steal it into your server

In your server, run:

/steal-no-nitro id:1089765432101234567 name:coolemoji

Set name to whatever you want to type it as (2 to 32 characters, letters, numbers and underscores). If the emoji was animated, add animated:true. The bot copies that exact emoji from the other server straight into yours.

Step 3: Use it free, forever

Type :coolemoji: and the stolen emoji appears, for you and every other member, no Nitro required, no expiry. Repeat for as many emojis as your server has slots (50 free per server, more as the server gains boosts).

Frequently asked questions

Do I really not need Nitro?

Correct. You never pay. The only requirement is the Manage Expressions permission in the server you’re stealing the emoji into, which you already have on your own server.

Is stealing an emoji against Discord’s Terms of Service?

No. Copying an emoji into a server you manage uses Discord’s normal emoji-upload feature. The bot just takes it from another server’s emoji or ID so you don’t need Nitro to grab it first.

Can my members without Nitro use the stolen emoji too?

Yes. Once an emoji lives in a server, every member of that server can use it for free, Nitro or not. That’s the whole point.

Can I steal from a server I’m not even in?

Yes, as long as the emoji shows up in a message you can see (so you can Copy Link), or you have its ID. You never have to join the source server.
