How to set up a starboard in Discord
A starboard collects your community's best messages in one channel. When a post gets enough of a chosen reaction, the bot reposts it to the board. Here is how to set one up with mimBo's, from the first star to a finished card.
Before you start
You need three things: the bot in your server, a channel to use as the board, and the Manage Server permission so you can open the settings.
- Create a channel like
#starboard(or reuse an existing highlights channel). - Decide which reaction counts. A star is the classic choice, but any emoji works.
Set it up step by step
- Open Starboard and select your server.
- Turn on the starboard and pick your board channel.
- Choose the reaction to count and how many reactions are needed (three is a good starting point).
- Pick how it looks: message only, a framed screenshot, or a styled card.
- Save changes, then react to a message to test it.
Choose how highlights look
There are three render modes, and the preview updates live as you change them:
- Message only reposts it as a normal Discord embed with the author, text and any image.
- Discord screenshot keeps the native Discord look and wraps it in a frame you can colour.
- Styled card draws a non-Discord card in one of several styles (Blossom, Cute, Sakura, Dreamy, Galaxy), with your accent colour. It resizes to fit whatever was said.
Keep it tidy
A couple of options stop the board filling with noise. Add channels to the ignore list so reactions there never reach the board (handy for staff or spam channels), and decide whether an author starring their own message should count. Raise the threshold on a big, active server so only the genuine standouts make it.
Open Starboard, pick a reaction and a card style, and post your first highlight.

How many reactions should a message need?
Three is a sensible default for most servers. On a large, busy server raise it to five or ten so only the real standouts get posted.
Can I use a custom server emoji instead of a star?
Yes. Pick any Unicode emoji or one of your own server emojis as the reaction to count.
Does it repost images and attachments?
Yes. An image attachment on the original message is included on the card or embed.
Will the same message get posted twice?
No. The bot remembers which messages are already on the board and updates the count on the existing post instead of creating a duplicate.
Can members star their own messages?
That is up to you. There is a setting to count or ignore the author’s own reaction toward the total.
