What is a Discord starboard? (and why use one)
A starboard is a “best of” channel for your server. When a message earns enough of a chosen reaction, a bot reposts it to one dedicated channel so the good stuff is never lost in the scroll.
How a starboard works
It comes down to three things: a reaction, a threshold and a board.
- People react to a message with the emoji you chose (often a star).
- Once the reactions reach your threshold, the bot copies that message to your board channel.
- As more people react, the count on the board post goes up. If reactions fall back below the threshold, the post is removed.
Why put one on your server
- Highlights, not noise. The funniest jokes, proudest wins and best art land in one place your members actually scroll.
- A community memory. The board becomes a scrapbook of your server’s best moments over time.
- Gentle engagement. People react more when a great message can be immortalised, and new members get an instant feel for the vibe.
What a good starboard looks like
The classic starboard is a plain repost, but it does not have to be. With mimBo’s you can keep the native Discord look inside a coloured frame, or render each highlight as a hand-drawn card in a style that matches your server, with your own accent colour. The card resizes to fit the message, short or long.
How to add one
It takes a couple of minutes: pick a reaction, choose a board channel and a look, and save. The full walkthrough is in how to set up a starboard in Discord.
Open Starboard, pick a reaction and a card style, and post your first highlight.

Why is it called a starboard?
Because the reaction people use to nominate a message is traditionally a star. You can use any emoji you like, but the name stuck.
Is a starboard the same as pinned messages?
No. Pins are chosen by moderators, one channel at a time. A starboard is voted on by your members with reactions, and collects highlights from across the whole server into one channel.
Does it work with any emoji?
Yes. A star is the default, but you can count any Unicode emoji or a custom server emoji.
Is it free?
Yes. mimBo’s starboard is free, including the custom card styles.
