How to add welcome messages to your Discord server (free)

What you need

• A Discord server where you have the Manage Server permission.
• The free mimBo's Welcome & Goodbye bot added to that server.
• A channel where you want new members greeted (for example #welcome or #general).

Step by step

1. Open the Welcome & Goodbye builder and log in with Discord.
2. Pick the server you want to set up.
3. If the bot is not in your server yet, click the invite link and authorise it.
4. Turn on Enable welcome messages and choose the channel to post in.
5. Pick a message type: a clean plain text line, or a rich embed with a title, colour and image.
6. Write your message using placeholders so each greeting is personal (see below).
7. Watch the live preview, then hit Save changes. It saves straight to the bot.

Personalise it with placeholders

mimBo's swaps these placeholders in automatically for every new member:

• {{user}} mentions the new member (pings them).
• {{username}} shows just their name, no ping.
• {{server}} is your server name.
• {{memberCount}} is the new member count, great for "You are member #500!".

Example: Welcome {{user}} to {{server}}! You are member #{{memberCount}}.

Make it look great

A few free touches that make a big difference:

• Canvas banner: drop in a background image and mimBo's overlays the new member's avatar on top for a custom welcome card.
• Ping outside the embed: turn this on so the member actually gets notified (mentions inside an embed do not ping).
• Auto reactions: have the bot react to its own welcome so others can pile on with a wave.
